I just finished it and cried for 20 minutes straight. This bloody drama was so perfect that I hate it. It had the right amount of suffering (yeee maybe I am slightly masochistic but who isn't. We watch Chinese dramas after all) and the cast was so lovely. Even the evil characters were absolutely amazing. There wasn't a single moment when I thought it's getting boring and that I should drop it. It's a masterpiece

2021.12.08 18:17 Mika95 Awesome Traveler and other branches!
I am writing an awesome Oc that is using other magics, like Sacrificial magic etc to become great. He will store his power in a talisman for quick draw spells but use Sacrificial magic for bigger spells. He is Elena's twin and thanks to Uncle John he studies Under Josephine LaRue, Vincent Griffth, and Eva Sinclair in New Orleans for five months ( From September to February with John comes back to the Mystic Falls in canon. That is how long that takes, I checked) to get powerful and skilled enough to survive the hell that comes to Mystic Falls. I want to show both the limits of and potential of a Traveler oc which is so freaking rare...
This will show both as all his powers will need preparation requiring him to be smart and not an op Deux Machina like Bonnie was forced to be...

2021.12.08 18:17 model-ceasar #SPX [Fife and the Forth Valley] Caesar opens his campaigning with a speech at Dunfermline Town Station
Model-Ceasar steps off the train at Dunfermline Town Station and reaches into his pocket for his ticket… He starts to panic as he realises that he can’t find it and does a mad scramble to the shutting doors of the train which proceeds to leave the station. The person at the ticket barriers insists that he pays for a new ticket even though Ceasar says he already had one but dropped it. Grabbing a megaphone that is so conveniently placed nearby he begins to address the station.
“This is just ridiculous! I have now bought 2 tickets for the same journey just because I lost my first one. I am Model-Ceasar and I am the New Britain candidate for Fife and the Forth Valley in this election. And I will make it so that contactless pay as you go is available at every station. Reducing the chance of this utter nonsense and increasing ease of use of the train network. I have submitted a bill of the like in Westminster, and New Britain will extend this to Scotland because well who doesn’t like easier travel?”
“What else will I do? I will open up discussions with the Government in Westminster about their plans for further High Speed Rail lines and how we can work together to integrate it into our network. It is important that we have a good connection with England, and the rest of the UK, to stimulate our economy, tourists, and so that it’s just easier for those Englishmen to visit the better country eh. New Britain will also be advocating strongly for an arrangement to jointly fund a new line between Carlisle and Hawick, bringing our two countries closer together.”
“But trains is not where we will stop. We can’t forget about the roads! We will review the entire road network in Scotland and carry out any necessary upgrades. Most importantly this will include the dualing of the A1 so that travel along the South East coast of Scotland is easier and less congested. We will revisit the Green Bus Loan Scheme, exploring changing it into a scrappage scheme. Bus operators would be able to scrap their current dirty fleet of petrol and diesel busses in favour for the clean hydrogen and electric busses with less of a financial strain on the business.”
“I can not highly press enough that you go out and vote for not only the best candidate, but also the only viable candidate (for this constituency). Me. And New Britain.”
And with that Ceasar places the megaphone nd proceeds to the exit, looking forward to his lunch of a sausage roll and steak bake from Greggs. 10 years from now people will still wondering… Did Ceasar really buy and lose his ticket, or was he making excuses for not buying one. No one will ever know…

For immediate context, this post isn't even about my job, but rather my significant other.
They're on a meeting now discussing their" raise." And of course, management opened up with the same bullshit, "we'd like to thank you for your contributions this year; we know it's been tough; hang in there;" blah fucking blah.
Then they move to the raise:

2021.12.08 18:17 AmbiguousAsparagus Why scientific accuracy has always been important in the Jurassic Park movies. The "movie monster" style is a JW era invention
This is copy and pasted from a comment that I made a while back that I think could be its own post. If anybody feels I didn't give enough examples to demonstrate my point let me know and I can give much more.
I honestly don't get how people can say Jurassic Park was always about movie monsters when the first movie made a huge deal of being the first big movie to depict dinosaurs as actual animals instead of monsters. Dangerous animals, sure - but animals no less.
Examples of scientific accuracy (for the time) being important in the first movie:
-Literally the most famous scene of the first movie is Dr Grant being in awe of a real life clone of the animals he studies, and then saying "they do move in herds" when he sees a bunch of paras.
-The way the raptors act in the first movie are exactly the way he theorized they do at the beginning.
-Grant correctly predicts that the T rex's vision is based on movement.
-When one of the kids calls the brachiosaurus a monster, Grant literally jumps in to say something like "no, it's just an animal. Like a big cow."
-"T rex doesn't want to be fed she wants to hunt! You can't suppress 65 million years of gut instinct" (implying the T rex in JP has similar instincts to an actual T rex)
-Malcolm at the table explaining how it's bad that dinosaurs and humans, two different species separated by millions of years of evolution, are being introduced to each other, implying that the dinos in the movie are more or less analogous to real dinosaurs.
-The T rex triumphantly roaring with the "when dinosaurs ruled the earth" banner cascading down, implying that this creature is more or less analogous to a real dinosaur
-The final shot of the movie is Grant looking out the helicopter window at the birds. The birds (natural creatures) are clearly meant to evoke the dinosaurs he spent the movie running from
Obviously they're not accurate reconstructions because of frog DNA, Wu's tampering etc, but the original JP movies make a big deal about scientific accuracy, but the "JP dinosaurs are monsters" approach to design was very much a Jurassic World era view.
This movie is famous for inspiring a bunch of kids to become palaeontologists, and depicting science as cool, dynamic, and interesting. The main character was a cool outdoorsy scientist, not a stuffy lab guy. The first movie was very much about making science cool. They brought (then) up-to-date scientific knowledge into the mainstream. They single handedly changed how the public views dinosaurs and palaeontology in general.
The novel is a different story. Indeed, the book makes a huge deal about how inaccurate and warped the dinosaurs are. They are described as being genetic creations, even having "software versions", (the genomes in the computer system are labeled like Triceratops v2.5.5 etc) But the book and movie are two very different things thematically. The book is a dark semi-horror novel about the hubris of mankind, a selfish millionaire creating genetic abominations as a moneymaking scheme, and the faults of science. The movie is a relatively light hearted fun-for-the-whole-family drama about a cast of loveable characters escaping from awe inspiring creatures brought back from the distant past. It has a childlike sense of wonder and imagination that is completely different from the novel. Anyway I just ranted a lot, but basically: scientific accuracy is very much within the theme of the franchise, particularly the first 3 movies

2021.12.08 18:17 Lordmuppet Security Graduate Program versus Security Awareness Coordinator
Just finished a MSc (general IT MSc with dissertation on security awareness training) currently in 2nd line tech support (which i like) and wondering whether Security Awareness Coordinator jobs (entry typically 35k) or Cyber Security Graduate Jobs at big companies (typically 2 years at 28k-30k) are a better option.
I'm passionate about security awareness training (well all human factors of security) and it's obviously more money up front but I'm worried that it may have limited room for career growth given that a lot of security awareness training roles are currently getting filled by people who are very skilled but often (not always) have no technical background who have moved across from learning and development, health and safety etc. Even though security awareness is a growth area, I'm worried I'd be getting into what will become a crowded pool in a few years and as a result moving up may be hard.
By contrast, I also feel like if i did the security graduate jobs it would lead to a wider range of jobs including but not limited to stuff involving security awareness training. I am also interested in things beyond security awareness training e.g. in my current role i'm trying to automate some of our response to phishing reports from users.
By contrast I worry that I wouldn't be able to go from security awareness roles back into more techncial roles as I'd get labelled as 'not technical'
So what do people think? is it a waste of a technical degree to go into security awareness training? I've been going back and forth on this. Decided against the graduate jobs but now swaying more towards them
